New England Revolution 0, Seattle Sounders 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution and Seattle Sounders shared the points on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium following a 0-0 draw that lacked for chances on both ends.

The Revs shaded affairs on their home field, but failed to translate that advantage into anything seriously troubling Seattle 'keeper Stefan Frei during his team's third match in eight days.

Frei finished with a solitary save in just Seattle's second defensive shutout of the season. The Sounders failed to score for a ninth time.

Frei's counterpart Matt Turner also had just one stop as the Revs extended an unbeaten streak to seven matches, one that includes five draws. Turner's stop came on Nicolas Lodeiro's 73rd-minute effort from beyond 40 yards, a hopeful attempt and long-overdue first shot on target by either club.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: While the Sounders' offense has looked somewhat improved of late, this effort will underscore Seattle's need to get new striker Raul Ruidiaz contributing as soon as possible once the Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 10. The Revs may leave Foxborough most concerned with the status of defender Claude Dielna, who departed at halftime.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Lodeiro's speculative effort was the visual embodiment of a night of huffing and puffing with little danger resulting.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Seattle center back Kim Kee-Hee had arguably his most comfortable game since coming to MLS from the Chinese Super League. It was the South Korean international's ninth consecutive start, one that may make coach Brian Schmetzer's decisions tougher when Roman Torres returns from a break following World Cup duty.
